Windham Mountain

Twas the Week Before Christmas

Twas the Week Before Christmas

Twas the week before Christmas, when all across the mountain,
snowguns were blasting as if they were fountains.
The groomers pushed out the piles with care,
In hopes that skiers and riders soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their snow gear,
While sights of Windham Mountain in the distance drew near.
And mamma in her helmet, and I in my coat,
Had just parked the car for a day on the slopes.

When out on the breezeway there arose such a clatter,
I looked to patio to see what was the matter.
Away from the lodge I flew like a flash,

Threw open the door which made such a crash.

The sunlight sparked on the newly-made snow,
and visitors gasping at the sight from below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but hundreds of Santas all dressed in their snow gear.

In suits in all sizes both women and men,

Were excited to be skiing and riding again.
More eager than children in droves they came,
Smiling and laughing, listing trails by name!

“Now Whistler! now, Warpath! now, Wall Street and Wolverine!
Then What’s Next, the Wall and Wolly Bear on E!
To the top of the mountain! To the top of the Wall!
Now ski away! Ride away! Just try not to fall!”

Their eyes-how they twinkled! Their dimples how merry!
Their cheeks were like roses, Their noses like a cherry!
The smiles on their mouths were drawn up like a bow,
And the beards of their chins were as white as the snow.

They stood in the lift line with chattering teeth,
All gathered together with boots on their feet.
They had stuffed their suits with a little round belly,
That shook when they laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

Then they boarded D Lift in groups of three,
And I laughed when noticed their holiday glee.

Down What’s Next they descended with grace,
Though some of them seemed to think it was a race.

They spoke not a word, but their actions were clear,
True holiday spirit was the reason they were here.
A donation they gave to those in need,
Their generosity would help the many mouths to feed.
The crowd was astonished and gave out a cheer,
Excited they were, to sign up for next year.
And I heard them exclaim, “what a great Christmas gift!”
“See you next year at the base of D Lift!”
