Earliest Opening in 14 Years at Windham Mountain Resort

Season Starts on the East Peak for the First Time in History

Windham Mountain, Windham, NY (November 15, 2018) -

Windham Mountain Resort will celebrate a historic Opening Day on Saturday, November 17, 2018, with the earliest opening in 14 years.  For the first time in The Resort’s 58 seasons of winter operations, the East Peak will open ahead of terrain on the West Peak.

Expert Terrain will be offered on “Why Not”, a black diamond favorite from the East Peak summit.  Beginner terrain will be open on “What’s Next”, a green circle trail from the Wheelhouse Lodge, though beginners should note that variable early season conditions may be present.  Terrain will be serviced by two lifts, the Whiteway Triple Chairlift (D Lift), and East Peak Express High-speed Quad (G Lift).  The Wheelhouse Lodge will be open with a limited menu, along with Mountain Express in the Base Lodge.

“Mother Nature offered us two solid windows of snowmaking temperatures at the summit this week, so we decided it made sense to go for the upper elevations of the East Peak first.  Our snowmaking team anxiously sprung into action and was able to get great coverage from top to bottom for an early season opening,” says Chip Seamans, President and General Manager of Windham Mountain Resort.  “Snowmakers will continue to build the base depth for as long as temperatures permit and 5-8” of natural snow is expected to fall Thursday night into Friday,” Seamans said.

Skiers and riders can look forward to enjoying $8 Million in capital investments for the 2018/2019 season at Windham Mountain Resort, including Westside Six, a high speed, detachable, six passenger chairlift on the West Peak, RFID lift access technology, snowmaking and grooming upgrades.

Lifts will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and Sunday, November 18, 2018.  Lift tickets will be offered at early season rates of $50 for adults, $40 for youth, $15 for ages 6 and under, $40 for seniors, $37 for seniors over 75, and $41 for college students. All lift tickets must be loaded onto a Windham Mountain RFID card.  Prices are inclusive of a $5 Windham Mountain RFID Card.  Cards may be reloaded and prices on return visits will be $5 less.  Guests are encouraged to reference the Mountain Report at windhammountain.com for the latest conditions and operating updates beyond the weekend.
