Westside Six, the brand new, high speed, detachable six passenger chairlift at Windham Mountain Resort is now open. The lift opened to the public on Thursday, December 20, 2018, and has been enjoyed by the many skiers and riders visiting the resort over the holidays. Earlier today, the grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
President and General Manager of Windham Mountain Resort, Chip Seamans, thanked employees for their contributions to the project and guests for their support and excitement throughout the installation process. He was joined by Ted Davis, Director of Mountain Operations, Nick Dana, Lift Maintenance & Operations Manager, and several Windham team members to cut the ribbon. Jim Thorington, Greene County Legislator Elect, Karl Heck, Director of Economic Development and Planning for Greene County, Jeff Friedman, President / Executive Director at Greene County Chamber of Commerce, Jay Fink, of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce & WRIP Radio, Lisa Jaeger, of the Windham Chamber of Commerce, Scott Brandi, President of Ski Areas of New York, Charlie McGuffog and Stu Burleson, of Windham Mountain Partners, were also in attendance.
Westside Six transports skiers and snowboarders from the base to the summit of the resort’s west peak in under five and a half minutes with a slope length of 5,105 feet and an uphill capacity of 3,000 people per hour. It was manufactured and installed by Doppelmayr, the world’s leading manufacturer of ropeways, cable cars and ski lifts, with assistance from many employees of Windham Mountain Resort.
Westside Six was part of an $8M capital investment made by Windham Mountain Resort for the 2018/2019 season. Other investments include RFID Lift Access Technology, nearly 100 automated, high-efficiency snow guns, over 2 miles of new snowmaking pipe, and a new PistenBully 400 Snowcat.
